What it is

Spain’s international teleworking route lets non-EU professionals live here while working remotely for employers or clients mainly based abroad. You can apply for a visa at a Spanish consulate before you travel, or, if you are already in Spain legally, for a residence authorisation from within the country.

The application looks at your professional background, the relationship with your employer or clients, your income and your health cover. When it is approved and you are living in Madrid, you still need your TIE. If the authorisation was granted in Spain by the Large Companies Unit (UGE) of the Dirección General de Gestión Migratoria, the card is issued and collected at the National Police office on Calle Santa Engracia 18, with an appointment.

Who needs it

  • Employees of foreign companies who can work fully remotely.
  • Freelancers whose main clients are outside Spain.
  • Professionals with a degree or proven experience in their field.
  • Couples and families relocating together to Madrid.
  • People already in Spain legally who want to change to this status.

Documents you will usually need

  • Valid passport.
  • Proof of the employment or service relationship and authorisation to work remotely.
  • Evidence of qualifications or professional experience.
  • Proof of income above the required threshold.
  • Health insurance valid in Spain.
  • Criminal record certificates, legalised and translated where required.

Income thresholds and supporting documents are updated periodically. We check the current figures for your case.

How we do it

  1. Eligibility review. We look at your contract or clients, your income and your background, and tell you plainly whether it works.
  2. Document plan. We list exactly what you need, including legalisations and sworn translations.
  3. Filing. We prepare and submit the application or guide your consulate visa application.
  4. Follow-up. We track the file and respond to any requests for more information.
  5. TIE in Madrid. Once approved, we book your card appointments in Madrid: at Calle Santa Engracia 18 for authorisations granted by the UGE.

How long it takes

Decision times depend on the route and on the authority dealing with your file; plan for several weeks once the file is complete. Legalisations and translations can add time, so start early.

Price

From 450 € + VAT for the full service. If you only need us to review and submit a file you have prepared, it is 250 € + VAT. Each family member is +100 € + VAT. Official fees, translations and legalisations are separate.

Questions we often get

Can I work for Spanish clients?

Some work for clients in Spain may be allowed within limits, but most of your activity must be for companies outside Spain. We check your mix of clients.

Can my family come with me to Madrid?

Yes, spouses or partners and children can usually be included, with additional income requirements.

Do I need to apply from my home country?

Not necessarily. If you are already in Spain legally, applying from within Spain may be possible.

What about taxes?

Your tax position in Spain needs separate advice. We can refer you to a tax adviser.
